Professor Carlson is a senior partner, mediator and arbitrator whose practice is concentrated in virtually every aspect of employment law. Specific areas of emphasis include discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful discharge; trade secrets and unfair competition; drafting and enforcing employment, confidentiality and noncompetition agreements; and FLSA/wage & hour matters - with mediation or arbitration in each of those areas now constituting most of his practice. Professor Carlson is a senior partner, mediator and arbitrator whose practice is concentrated in virtually every aspect of employment law. Specific areas of emphasis include discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful discharge; trade secrets and unfair competition; drafting and enforcing employment, confidentiality and noncompetition agreements; and FLSA/wage & hour matters - with mediation or arbitration in each of those areas now constituting most of his practice. Ken regularly consults with employers in how to address legal issues in the workplace, and frequently conducts training on appropriate management and employee practices to try and avoid employment problems before they occur.

Ken has served as an adjunct professor at the Wake Forest School of Law since 1997, and currently teaches courses in Negotiation and Trade Secrets/Unfair Competition. He is consistently named to Business North Carolina's annual "Legal Elite", to the list of North Carolina "Super Lawyers", and to the Best Lawyers in America for labor & employment law and/or alternative dispute resolution. He has repeatedly received the Best Lawyers' "Lawyer of the Year" recognition in alternative dispute resolution for the Winston-Salem/Greensboro metropolitan area, and has repeatedly been named to the NC Lawyers Weekly annual "Power List" for employment law.

Ken is a former chair of the Dispute Resolution Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, and has served on the governing Councils for both the Dispute Resolution and Employment Law Sections. Ken is a Fellow with the American Bar Foundation, is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars, and has published numerous articles and CLE manuscripts through the years on various employment law topics. Ken earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1976, his Master of Divinity from Yale University in 1981, and his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest in 1990. He is married to Melanie, and has three grown daughters and five grandchildren. He enjoys golf and most outdoor sports, along with hiking and camping - especially in areas where smart phones don't work, which are increasingly difficult to find.
